Travis Jensen is a guitar, bass, vihuela player, singer, and a graduate from Metropolitan State University of Denver.  During his time at university, Travis extensively studied jazz and music composition. He also began playing mariachi music and played the style professionally for multiple years in the Denver scene, establishing himself as one of the city’s best players and most knowledgeable teachers in the style. He now proudly directs the mariachi at South Grand Prairie High School. He also has training as a classical singer, which he used to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City with the University of Northern Colorado choir.
Since graduating in 2019, Travis has acquired six years of teaching experience in jazz, rock and mariachi music. He has learned how to differentiate between his students’ learning styles and instruct them accordingly. He is very passionate about students learning and progressing, gaining greater skill and appreciation for the beauty and complexity of music. Travis also values his students having fun with the material as they build their knowledge on essential theory and technique during his classes! His lessons are often a mix of theory instruction with learning the music the student is passionate about!
Originally from the Dallas area, Travis is eager for another adventure in music and is ecstatic to have the chance to teach anyone at the Dallas Music Academy!
