About Me
Owen Troy is a DFW based guitarist and musician who discovered his love for music at 4 years old because of the importance of music in his community and family. Later on he became interested in the guitar through singer-songwriter music, which eventually led him to discover rock, metal, and jazz. He also was heavily involved in his high school's choir program, competing in all Texas All State and placing first chair bass 2 in 2023. Currently he is pursuing his bachelor's degree in jazz guitar at the University of North Texas, where he was a part of the illustrious Latin Jazz Lab Band. He is anticipated to graduate in May of 2027, and currently serves as a guitar instructor at Dallas Music Academy.
My Teaching Philosophy
As a musician, I firmly believe that beginner, advanced, amateur, and professional music is all of equal importance to musical culture and society. As a teacher, I aim to help my students realize a musical life for themselves, whatever that may look like. Ultimately, I believe in meeting students where they’re at in terms of both skill level and interests, because the best way to improve as a musician is to chase the music that excites you. Whether that means learning advanced skills and repertoire, or strumming through a pop song, I want to help identify what gets you excited, help you find more of it, and guide you in the process of capturing that excitement on your instrument. Whether you want a creative outlet, to improve as an artist, or are simply looking to enrich your life through a hobby, I am honored to be a part of your musical journey.
