Philosophy

As a vocalist, performer, and educator, I believe that every student deserves access to high-quality arts education—regardless of their background, income, or experience level. Growing up, I was unable to take private lessons due to financial constraints and it had an effect when I decided to pursue music at the collegiate level. I was very behind my peers and was told that maybe music was not for me. That experience has shaped my mission as an educator: to create inclusive, affirming spaces where students from all walks of life can discover and develop their artistic voices.
My interdisciplinary degree in Latino Arts & Community Engagement combines music, psychology, human services, and social work, and reflects my deep belief that the arts are essential to both personal growth and community empowerment. I see music education not only as a path to artistic excellence, but also as a powerful tool for healing, self-expression, and cultural connection.
As a classically trained mezzo-soprano with experience in jazz, opera, mariachi, and contemporary styles, I draw from a diverse musical palette to meet students where they are and inspire them to explore new artistic possibilities. My teaching is student-centered and flexible, shaped by the understanding that each learner has a unique voice and learning style. I especially value working with students who may not fit a traditional mold, and I bring empathy and creative problem-solving to every lesson—skills I’ve cultivated through my lived experience with dyscalculia and my work in community arts.
At its core, my teaching philosophy is about access, encouragement, and authenticity. I strive to help students feel seen, heard, and empowered—on stage and beyond.
