Dr. Joseph Henry is a pianist, organist, music director and educator. He has earned two doctoral degrees in music performance. These include a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in vocal accompanying from the Manhattan School of Music (dissertation: “The Evolution of Musical Form in Verdi’s Arias”) and DMA and MM degrees in organ performance from the University of Minnesota (dissertation: “Reinken’s An Wasserflussen Babylon as it relates to the process of improvisation in the seventeenth century ”) He holds both Bachelor of Music (piano performance) and Master of Music (collaborative piano) degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music.
He is comfortable working with all students at all age and ability levels. He has taught various musical subjects including music theory, solo piano, class piano, and music appreciation at the University of Minnesota, Grambling State University, Concordia University, Union County College, and Louisiana Tech University.
As a twenty-year veteran of the U.S. Army (with three separate military occupational specialties including piano player, chaplain assistant, and combat engineer), he has performed as a keyboard player, vocal soloist and auxiliary percussionist in six different army bands. He was introduced to popular musical styles while in the army. He is a returned Peace Corps volunteer (TEFL Romania 1998-2000)
